ABOUT ME

Why do I love to work with high achieving women who struggle through life with worry and stress?

Because they are the kick ass movers and shakers of the world. They get the job done and I love that energy. When directed at self improvement, this energy allows my clients to overcome stress, exhaustion and worry in an impressively short period of time. You have a lot on your to-do list and I want to help you get it done with joy and ease. I have struggled myself and come out on the other side with help from the concepts and tools I use in my work. I use my life as a laboratory, experimenting with habits and optimizing various areas of my life before I suggest techniques to you. I know first hand that this approach works. And, I tailor your program to meet your specific needs and goals.

Working with me will be a different experience than you have had. I’m going to give you concrete tools. I’m going to give you homework. I am going to hold you accountable. I want you to take this work as productively into your life as possible. This work will increase your productivity by freeing up your energy from spending it worrying. When this excess energy is redirected towards systematic habit changes and lifestyle improvements, real, lasting, positive change happens with ease. I am a woman who appreciates structure and efficacy. I can’t tell you how many clients have come to me complaining about previous experiences where therapy dragged on with no end in sight. I am not the open ended “how you are feeling today?” type therapist or coach. I have a structure and a plan (see SERVICES tab for more info on that).

AND, while I value structure and productivity, I also love deep pleasure. So, you will also learn how to balance your over-active, structured and outcome-oriented approach by more fully embracing the feminine energy of being. This is the energy of creativity, movement, communing with others, nature, intense emotions, intense pleasure, open hearted love for yourself and others, and deep relaxation and rejuvenation.

therapy training and experience

I was born a curious child, always fascinated by people and their stories with a desire to help those struggling. We lose so much of our sense of awe of the world, conditioned out of us through the education system, parental and societal expectations for appropriate behavior and even peer pressure. I feel lucky I managed to hold onto my childhood fascination with people, why and how they became who they are. As I matured I became fascinated with the story of Adam and Eve’s fall, having eaten from the fruit of knowledge, and the idea that free will is a human birth rite. People are not destined to a path, they can choose to co-create a new one once they become conscious of the patterns at play.

With that in mind, after studying psychology at Boston University, I went on to receive my masters in Social Work from NYU in 2009. I began my therapy career as an in-patient psychiatric social worker at Bellevue Hospital working with severely persistently mentally ill adults.  I left Bellevue to work at Albert Einstein College of Medicine's Early Childhood Center for almost five years, practicing Child-Parent Psychotherapy, in an attempt intervene at the earliest age possible. I simultaneously launched my private practice in Brooklyn in 2013 working with adults suffering through the NYC grind with depression and anxiety. Over the past twenty-one years I have studied Buddhist philosophy and yoga as well as various types of meditation, chanting, breath work, visualization and relaxation techniques with several gifted teachers. I incorporate these mindfulness practices into my work, offering concrete tools to cope with anxiety and depression as it arises in the moment.

COACHING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

I met the founder of She Creates Change, Suparna Bhasin, in 2012 and completed her coach training program in 2013. Her organization empowered women to gain clarity on their dreams and actualize them, largely through becoming solo- or entrepreneurs. I began seeing private coaching clients in 2013. In 2017 I formally linked forces with my husband, Devin Martin’s, coaching practice Lifestyle Integrity- the #1 ranked Life and Career Coach in NYC on Yelp 4 years running (just saying!). I offer a therapeutic coaching model to clients looking for traditional coaching (short term, direct accountability, challenging style, formal goal setting and tracking) with the support of therapeutic tools and techniques. My coaching clients may still struggle with high functioning anxiety or depression, but have commonly been through years of therapy, identified problematic patterns and explored why they adopted them. They are now looking for unfaltering accountability to help radically transform habits that no longer serve them.
