-therapeutic coaching-
Individuals
My coaching clients have often been in traditional therapy before (this is not a requirement), and are now looking to create action oriented goals, while being held accountable to me and our work in order to achieve these goals in a timely manner. I coach clients through major life transitions, including career transition, career fulfillment, the search for purpose, transition into parenthood, the search for a healthy romantic partner. I incorporate my background in therapy and offer mindfulness and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques when anxiety or depression arrises. Our worries and doubts hold us back from achieving our full potential and living as our strongest, wisest self. I will support you in managing anxiety and depression and navigating relationships through the use of concrete tools, so you can focus on achieving the life of your dreams.
-Therapy clients-
Individuals
I use an eclectic approach combining years of experience with relational psychotherapy, attachment theory, mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy and holistic coaching. Your treatment will be tailored to your unique needs as an individual. I believe that therapy is most effective within an honest, intimate relationship based on mutual trust and respect. Unlike coaching, therapy will explore your past. This is a space for unprocessed trauma and patterns to come to light. After the 6 session assessment phase we will co-create goals which will become the roadmap of our work.
COUPLES
I use the Imago method in my work with couples. This technique teaches and reinforces clear, healthy communication between the couple by using the Imago Dialogue. By slowing down communication and getting to the real meaning underlying each other’s words, the couple begins to understand what meaning each takes away from their words. This is often in direct contrast with their intended meaning. With practice the couple is able to learn the most effective way to communicate with their partner to convey this meaning. Couples tend to have similarities in their relational dynamic as the individuals in the couple have with their own parent figures. We fall in love with what feels good and comfortable, and these relational dynamics are so deeply imprinted that even hurtful dynamics can feel comfortable and translate into love. The work includes bringing these negative relational dynamics into awareness and learning why and how the couple is triggered by their partner and how to deescalate subsequent intense emotions. Once the couple becomes aware of the intergenerational dynamic being played out empathy increases. As opposed to focusing on the negative issues exclusively which can leave couples feeling demoralized and disconnected, the work focuses on the shared love and reasons the couple is together, increasing loving feelings and fostering connection.
-Modalities-
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is a practice rooted in ancient Buddhism. It is the purposeful focus on the present moment resting in non-judgment. It is the ability to be fully present whether driving a car, washing dishes or talking to your partner. Practices include diaphragmatic breathing, meditation, relaxation techniques, visualizations and imagery. Studies on Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) indicate that Mindfulness reduces anxiety, depression, blood pressure, ADHD symptoms, and increases focus and overall feelings of well being. In today's electronically demanding society practicing Mindfulness benefits everyone to reduce stress, and is especially useful for those suffering from anxiety, depression and Attention Deficit Disorder.
Current research on Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction shows:
Dramatic reductions in physical pain and an enhanced ability to cope with chronic pain
Dramatic decreases of anxiety, depression, hostility and the tendency to somatize
More effective skills in managing stress
An increased ability to relax
Greater energy and enthusiasm for life
Improved self-esteem
An ability to cope more effectively with both short and long-term stressful situations
Lowered blood pressure
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) evaluates the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Together we explore the beliefs behind these behaviors and challenge irrational thoughts by experimenting with new and adaptive ways of interacting with our minds and the outside world. CBT is an evidence based practice proven effective in treating anxiety, depression, phobias and a wide array of mental illnesses.
